ISLAMABAD – In a significant diplomatic development, four countries Pakistan, China, Russia, and Iran jointly opposed the presence of various terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan.
The four-nation coalition slammed TTP, Majeed Brigade, and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and raised voices for regional security threats posed by these organizations.
The issue was addressed during a four-way meeting of the foreign ministers of the involved nations, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The ministers issued a joint statement rejecting the Afghan Taliban’s assertions that they do not provide sanctuary to any terrorist groups, including the TTP.
Islamabad and other nations expressed deep concerns about the escalating security situation in Afghanistan, as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), TTP, Jaish-ul-Adl, and others continue to threaten both regional and global stability.
These countries also denounced terrorist activities perpetrated by these groups against neighboring countries and called for enhanced multilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts. Taliban-led government was urged to adhere to its international commitments and prevent Afghan territory from being used for terrorism.
The statement also emphasized the need to support Afghanistan in addressing both the symptoms and root causes of terrorism, advocating for comprehensive measures to swiftly eliminate these threats.
Islamabad and Tehran were also commended for their efforts in hosting millions of Afghan refugees, underscoring the humanitarian aspect of the ongoing crisis.
