Rawalpindi Students Clash With Police Amid Protest Over Lahore College Rape Incident

RAWALPINDI – Tensions escalated in the garrison city of Rawalpindi where students protested over reports of an alleged rape incident at a college in Lahore.

A report shared by local media said demonstrators clashed with police, hurling stones as law enforcement attempted to disperse the crowd. It was reported that students vandalised hostel rooms and put furniture and other items on fire.

The unrest in Punjab follows claims of a sexual assault on campus, sparking outrage among students and activists. While the college administration and the Punjab government have denied any occurrence of the assault, the young woman’s parents also refuted the claims, leading to confusion and heightened emotions.

The situation remains tense as students demand accountability and justice, calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations. Authorities are urging calm as they navigate the rising unrest and the community’s call for safety on educational campuses.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz rejected claims of rape incident involving student at Lahore college, asserting the allegations are false. An investigation concluded that the girl had been hospitalized due to a fall before the claims emerged.

CM lamented protests, accusing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party of orchestrating a misleading campaign, particularly during the SCO summit. She vowed to take action against those spreading misinformation and stated that the girl was a victim of political manipulation.

On Wednesday, all government and private colleges in Gujrat city were closed amid protests. DC shared a notification, saying all educational institutions will remain closed from October 17 to October 19
