Federal Cabinet Meets Today To Finalize Constitutional Amendments

ISLAMABAD – The federal cabinet is set to meet today at 9:30am to potentially approve a draft of constitutional amendments amid flurry of meetings.

This urgent meeting comes after the draft received prior approval from a special parliamentary committee, following a previous cabinet session that was adjourned without a decision.

Amid back to back meetings of top leaders, both National Assembly and Senate are also set to reconvene after Friday’s sessions were halted before the amendments could be introduced. Senate is scheduled to resume at 11:00 AM, while the National Assembly will gather at 3:00 PM. Both houses are expected to focus on the proposed constitutional changes.

Wih 9-point agenda for National Assembly, the constitutional amendments were not initially included. However, sources suggest that if consensus is reached among members, the amendment may be added as a supplementary item. There is also the possibility of a motion to suspend the usual agenda to expedite the discussion on the amendments.

National Assembly’s agenda include presentation of a report from the standing committee regarding the Legal Aid and Justice Authority Amendment Bill. Other  issues include notices related to irregularities in general sales tax collection and delays in salary payments for employees of Pakistan Railways.

Today’s meetings are seen as crucial for advancing the legislative agenda, with hopes that swift action can be taken on the constitutional amendments.
