ISLAMABAD (APP) – Pakistan has witnessed a decrease in the population of its rural areas population from 61.4 percent in 2014 to 60.1 percent in 2016, as part of an ongoing trend of rapid urbanization.
In the same period, the population in urban areas increased from 38.5 percent in 2014 to 40 percent in 2016.
Population Division figures indicate that Pakistan is urbanizing rapidly and, as a result, the number of city dwellers had increased as a proportion of the population.
Rural-urban migration generally takes place for economic reasons.
However, the process of urbanisation is accompanied with social, health and environmental issues and, therefore, requires proper planning to make it bear positively on the economic development of the country.
Labor force participation rate estimates, however, decreased slightly from 32.9 percent in 2012-13 to 32.3 per cent in 2014-15.  data Labor force participation rate indicates supply of labor in economy and the proportion of people currently employed in the country.
Female labour force participation rate increased from 15.6 percent in 2012-13 to 15.8 percent in 2014-15. Male labor force participation rate decreased from 49.3 percent in 2012-13 to 48.1 percent in 2014-15.
