Young doctors continue protest despite govt warnings

LAHORE – Scores of young doctors and nurses continued their sit-in protest in Lahore on Friday for the fourth day despite warnings by the government of Punjab to rejoin the duties.

The young doctors and nurses boycotted their duties for the fourth day in a bid to push government, succumb to their demands.

YDA (Young Doctors Association) spokesman Dr. Khurram Shehzad said the strike would continue till the restoration of sacked doctors at the Mayo Hospital however, authorities said that the doctors were sacked because they misbehaved with patients.

On the other hand, Medical Superintendent of Mayo Hospital Dr. Amjad Shehzad confirmed that over 40 fresh doctors have been inducted, many of whom have joined the hospitals.

He went on to say that 50 new nurses have also been deputed in different wards after nursing department dispatched termination letters to the protesting ones.

The demonstrations of the YDA irked the residents of the provincial capital who were left stranded in traffic snarl-ups due to road blockade.
