Pakeezah actor abandoned by son in the hospital, left unattended

A junior artist in Meena Kumari’s 1972 blockbuster hit Pakeezah, Geeta Kapoor, was admitted to a Goregaon Hospital on the 21st of April by her son Raja, only to be abandoned by him later, according to reports by Mid-day.

Admitted to SRV Hospital on account of her falling blood pressure, Geeta’s son was asked to pay the money and make a deposit at the hospital. He went out with the excuse of looking for an ATM machine nearby to draw money from and never return.

Despite his disappearance, doctors at the SRV hospital continued with Geeta’s treatment because of her critical condition.

Raja got her to us, lying about him being an army officer and she needing urgent treatment. He was asked to pay a deposit and complete the formalities. He left saying he would get money from the nearest ATM but never returned. We had no option but to start the treatment as she was in a bad shape,” said one of the doctors.

He added, “I even sent an ambulance to their home to trace him. But the neighbours said the family had left the house that very day.

The hospital made a multiple number of attempts to trace Geeta’s son Raja and her daughter Pooja, but all in vain.

Resultantly, the Pakeezah actor was left alone in the end with a bill of INR 150,000. In an interview with TV9, Geeta spoke about misfortune and how it’s been over a month since anybody from her family has come to get her from the hospital.

Geeta revealed to the publication, “He used to beat me up as I did not approve of his philandering ways. He would give me food once in four days, and sometimes, even lock me up for several. I was not ready to go to an old-age home, that’s why he planned all this. He deliberately kept me hungry and I fell ill. Then, he got me admitted and fled.

Reportedly, the hospital has now filed a complaint with the police against Geeta’s missing son. Dr. Tripathi states, “We were ready to send her home, but the son refuses to turn up. We had no option but to inform the police.

It is certainly unfortunate when an incident of this nature surfaces to the forefront. Have anything to add? Share with us below.
