India would have to liberate Kashmiris: Sartaj Aziz

ISLAMABAD –  Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Sunday that the Indian authorities would have to give freedom to Kashmiris and Pakistan would continue political, moral and diplomatic support of the people in the restive region.

In a television interview, the adviser expressed that India could not suppress the vigour of Kashmiris for freedom adding that during the last year, after the martyrdom of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, the Indian atrocities on Kashmiris had reached their peak and vigour of Kashmiris had also reached the peak.

Aziz noted that if a referendum could be held in Italy and Britain, then why not in Kashmir.

“If India was a democratic country, then it should give chance to people of Kashmir for deciding their future course,” the adviser said.

“If plebiscite was held in Kashmir hardly any Muslim would decide to live with India,” he observed.

Sartaj Aziz said that voice had been raised in many parliaments of the world regarding the Kashmir dispute.

“During next week the meeting of the foreign ministers in Ivory Coast is going to be held and I would attend the meeting and important message regarding Kashmir issue would be given in the meeting,” Aziz added.

The official opined that India could not succeed in bringing demographic changes to keep the disputed valley glued to its territory.

Regarding the burgeoning Line of Control violations, Sartaj Aziz claimed that during the last one year, India had committed 450 LoC violations leading to the martyrdom of innocent people.
