Visibility problem: Motorways police establishes information centers for smog

ISLAMABAD – Deputy Inspector General (DIG) National Highways & Motorways Police (NH&MP) N-5 North Zone, Abbas Ahsan said that NH&MP has established information centres following the direction of Inspector General of Police, Dr Syed Kalim Imam to provide information to road users and the general public during foggy, smoggy season.

DIG further added that the department has established Emergency Helpline 130 for road users and travellers can now get information about fog/smog situation.

Ahsan added that special and trained briefing officers have been deployed on all the toll plazas to sensitize and provide information & safety tips to the road users regarding road and weather situation.

He disclosed that road safety messages are to be displayed on LEDs installed at toll plazas and coordination with the meteorological department have been established to get weather situation and said the information would be flashed on TV Channels for the general public.

NH&MP DIG said that education wing of NH&MP N-5 North is visiting bus terminals, wagon stands and public places to deliver road safety lectures.

Abbas Ahsan added that road users should plan their journey in daylight instead of night hours, appealing to the travellers to install fog lights at the front and rear of the vehicles and switched on hazard lights during dense fog/smog.

DIG further added that road users must reduce their speeds and maintain safe distances in adverse weather conditions.

He assured that all the available resources would be utilized to their optimum to provide safe and sound passage to the commuters.-Online
