Waqar Zaka lambasts Shoaib Mansoor, Sharmeen Obaid for commercialising negativity

KARACHI – Social media star Waqar Zaka posted a video on his social media handle Facebook in which he lampooned Pakistani film directors Shoaib Mansoor and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy for portraying negative aspects of society through their films for commercial purposes.

In the latest video the Living on the Edge star expressed his viewpoints regarding the newly released film of Shoaib Mansoor ‘Verna’ and claimed that the director could have helped the victims in another way instead of through his film.

The television personality declared that instead of making a film on rape victims, Mansoor should have invested the same amount in the rehabilitation of victims.

Some viewers might find this video offensive

Zaka, who is known for his critical viewpoint regarding the societal issues went a mile more and alleged that Shoaib Mansoor holds a history of airing negativity.

‘At a time when Pakistan was creating meaningful content, Shoaib Mansoor launched Fifty Fifty as a comic series to criticise the social issues of the country,’ Zaka said.

He noted that now that most film-makers were focusing on comedy-oriented content, but Shoaib has started making films on social issues adding that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy also harnessed the same methodology for commercial interests.

He then went on to say that Pakistanis and Muslims were regarded as extremists but the Padmavati controversy in India showed that extremism was not limited to Pakistan.
