LAHORE: The Cantonment Board management has officially sealed Lahore’s Shalimar Theatre due to immoral performances.
According to sources, the Cantonment Board authorities used secret sources to infiltrate and investigate the matter during a performance where the actors were found to be using inappropriate language and were engaged in improper dance routines. Authorities took immediate action according to the drama act and sealed Shalimar Theatre.
This is not the first time the establishment has been sealed down due to complaints of indecent performances.
Earlier, actor and comedian Sohail Ahmed was at the forefront of bringing these practices to the government’s attention. When interviewed by a private T.V channel he said, “I have always been linked to work on our culture, and till date no authority figure has paid any attention to the dire issue of culture. Look back at the last 70 years of our nation and you won’t see any law or policy regarding it. Bhutto Sahab paid a little attention to the issue and made the Arts Council which we today are taking forward.”
He further added,”Take the songs from the past 25 to 30 years, and see their lyrics,” he said. “There is no one to question the censor board, what will these teach children and what affect will it have on our upcoming generation, how will it spread awareness about sexual abuse?”
He also said that after airing in movies, these songs were played on the stage accompanied by extremely pornographic dances.
