GALLE (Web Desk) – Pakistan on Friday did well to wrap up Sri Lanka for 300. Barring the century stand between Kaushal Silva and Sangakkara, there were no real partnerships from the hosts.
Both Zulfiqar Babar and Wahab Riaz took three wickets each.
Lankan opener Kaushal Silva continued to defy the Pakistani bowlers as wickets fell around him on the third morning of the first Test at the Galle International Stadium.
Silva went to lunch unbeaten on 113 with Sri Lanka on 273 for six wickets.
The diminutive right-hander has batted the entire length of the Lankan innings for 403 minutes, facing 273 balls and hit 15 fours.
Silva completed his century, his second in Tests with an extra cover driven four off left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar, but found that none of team mates could display the patience he has shown in the middle.
Pakistan picked up three Lankan wickets in the extended morning session and would be well pleased with their efforts.
Skipper Angelo Mathews was bowled off the inside edge for 19 giving Wahab Riaz his third wicket of the innings.
Dinesh Chandimal and Kithuruwan Vithanage both made promising starts but failed to carry on and make a big score.
Pakistan who took the second new ball after 80 overs struck twice with it but it was the spinners who took the wickets.
Chandimal (23) attempting to cut Babar was bowled and Vithanage (18) giving Mohammad Hafeez the charge only succeeded in giving the bowler a simple return catch.
Pakistan bowlers kept a tight leash on the Lankan batsmen allowing them to score 95 runs off 31 overs.
