2008 interview reveals Salman Khan stating jail was a lot of fun and that he was chilling during his stay

With the recent controversy after controversy related to the Salman Khan poaching case, it seems there is just no end to the amount of digging up one can do. A Jodhpur court, almost 20 years later, has convicted Khan to five years in prison under Section 9/51 of India’s Wildlife Protection Act.

However this isn’t Khan’s first brush with court proceedings or jail time, as according to the Hindustan Times, this will be the ‘Ready’ star’s fourth jail sentence! Now, an old interview from 2008 of the 53 year old actor has reemerged where Khan can be seen casually remarking to Koel Puri that he had been ‘chilling’ while in jail and that ‘the only tension was going to the bathroom’.

When the interviewer asked what his time in jail was like, Salman replied with hints of sarcasm, “A lot of fun.” However, the two soon started laughing and Khan properly answered with, “I was blank. I was chilling. The only tension was the bathroom. That was it. And, the bin, and three, four times I have gone in and out of it. If someone wants to put you in, you go in quietly. When you know you haven’t done it, you go in head high.”

“The police custody here, yeah.. There were like nine or 10 rooms, and each room had 9-10 people in one room. One bathroom. One toilet. So that was…[rolls his eyes] Then the rest of the space, the Central Jail. When you go to the judicial custody, you get your own suite there,” he added with a smile.

Salman further added, “Once a week. Then you get one qaidi who’ll give you chai in the morning. The same guy will come and get you the lunch. There’s one guard outside. You get this one mug, that you have your chai in and wash it. Then you have daal-chawal in it. You use it to take a shower. You use it to do whatever you wanna do.”

When asked about what he did to pass the time there, he said, “I used to do a lot of push-ups and crunches. And used to work out thrice a day.”
