ISLAMABAD – The accountability court in Islamabad will resume hearing the Avenfield Reference on Monday, filed against the members of Sharif family by the National Accountability Bureau.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz would not be appearing before the judge Muhammad Bashir as they were not able to fly to Islamabad due to inclement weather, an exemption for which was granted.
During today’s hearing, Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz will continue cross-examination of the head of Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Wajid Zia, in the presence of co-accused Captain (r) Safdar.
The Avenfield properties reference is among three cases filed against Nawaz and his family by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year on the Supreme Court’s directives, which also disqualified Nawaz Sharif as premier and party head.

As many as three corruption references had been filed against the Sharif family, on the directives of the top court which pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.
Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hussain and Hasan are accused in all three references whereas his daughter Maryam and son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar are named in the Avenfield reference only.
Hussain and Hassan Nawaz are UK-based and have been absconding since the proceedings began last year, however, the former premier has been showing up regularly before the court of judge Muhammad Bashir.
