The Quaid-e-Azam Library is a public library located within the Bagh-e-Jinnah in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The Library was constructed in the mid 19th century during the British Raj compromises of Victorian-era Lawrence and Montgomery halls.
The library is known as the ‘The White House Of Pakistan’. The library is a masterpiece of Greek Architecture. This building is like an imperial icon of the Lahore. Daily many students, book-lovers, lawyers, public officers visit this prestigious library to gain knowledge and the atmosphere of the library makes one fall in love with the building.
The complex includes two halls, the first was built in memory of John Laird Mair Lawrence, 1st Baron Lawrence, and the second in memory of Robert Montgomery Martin. It is a major attraction of the park previously known as “Lawrence Gardens”.
The original curved roof of the Montgomery Hall was disassembled and substituted in 1875 with a teak floor for singing and dancing. The roof of the library is covered in Egyptian and Italian patterns and fitted with glass windows.
The library has 125,000 volumes, both in English and Urdu languages. Nearly two thousand books are added to the library annually. It has more than 17,000 people are enrolled as the members of the library. The Lawrence Hall is normally used as an assembly room for public meetings and theatrical and musical amusements. Many local and foreign tourists visit the library to experience its beauty and grandeur.
One cannot miss visiting the library while going to the ‘Bagh-e-Jinnah’ Park.
