Video shows PAT s leader Gandapur abusing female hostellers

LAHORE – A video has recently surfaced on social media showing Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur abusing and shouting at female students of Minhaj University hostel.

According to some students, they had brought their demands while protesting against no arrangements for sahri at the Minhaj-ul-Quran hostel during Ramzan.

At these demands, Gandapur started shouting and threatening the students, warning, “You don’t know who I am.” He also asked the management to write names of each protesting student and call their parents.

The PAT secretary general said ‘shut up’ a number of times and asked the students whether their parents had taught them manners. Gandapur also threatened one student by saying, “You will either tell me the name of the girl who was speaking to you or go home tonight.”

When asked Gandapur for comment, he explained that some of the varsity students insisted on going out after sunset which is a clear violation of the hostel’s rules. “Every student has given it in writing that they will not go out of the hostel after sunset without the male escorts or family members,” he added.

He said that these girls had ‘manhandled’ the hostel staff and created disturbance before he was called in to diffuse the situation. Gandapur recalled, “At first, I requested politely and asked them to tell their problems one by one but they didn’t listen at all. We have a strict policy in our hostel and it is our priority to ensure the security of these girls.”

The PAT leader further said that disciplinary action will be taken against the students who violated rules. “If someone wants to go out after sunset then they can ask their parents to shift them to any other hostel where such actions are allowed,” he suggested.

According to sources privy to the whole episode, the incident erupted due to miscommunication between the officials of the hostel as an application for the iftar meetup in university premises had already been forwarded to the Vice Chancellor and apparently, Gandapur was not kept in the loop by the administration.

The rude behaviour of PAT leader prompted concerns among the students of the university who staged a protest on campus, the following day.
