Get rid off the scourge of Imran Khan… : DG ISPR confronts tough question in crucial presser

RAWALPINDI – Major General Asif Ghafoor, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, faced a barrage of questions in an ‘important’ presser addressed on Tuesday in connection with the upcoming elections.

As the official was outlining the efforts made by the armed forces for smooth elections, one of the journalists, Ahmed Mansoor, associated with Express-News pitched a harsh question directly questioning the credibility of the armed forces and their influence on the political landscape.

‘Nawaz Sharif is politically over and so is the case with Asif Zardari, why not tackle this scourge Imran Khan as he will also not spare anyone,’ asked the reporter in a reference to the Avenfield verdict and initiation of a probe against Asif Ali Zardari in the money laundering case.

Upon this, the military spokesperson did not give a point-blank answer and replied that ahead of every other electoral practice, politicians switch loyalties which is a routine practice.

He clarified that the elections were being held in a peaceful atmosphere as compared to 2013.

‘We have gone thick skin,’ observed the official.

‘This is not the first time politicians are switching political parties. how is it possible that the decisions are made merely on the basis of a phone call,’ he responded.

He continued that at the end of the day the voters are to decide the political future of the country adding that the masses should use their vote on their own.

‘You should not cast aspirations about every other thing,’ said the spokesperson.
