Canada engaging with Pakistan for Asia Bibi s asylum: PM Justin Trudeau

OTTAWA – Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau said on Monday that his government was in consultation with Pakistan over offering asylum to Asia Bibi who was freed from prison after the supreme court granted her acquittal

In a recent interview, Trudeau expressed that there was a delicate domestic context that Canda respects, which is why ‘I don’t want to say any more about that, but I will remind people Canada is a welcoming country,’.

Asia Bibi was released from a prison in Multan city of Pakistan after the apex court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against Bibi.

The apex court decision set off a wave of protests across the length and breadth of Pakistan which ended after three-days following an agreement with government.

Earlier, it was reported by HuffPost that Britain has denied asylum to Asia on fears of threat to its diplomatic missions abroad.

Asia’s husband had appealed in particular to Britain, Canada and the United States, claiming that Bibi’s life would be in danger as long as she was in Pakistan.
