LAHORE – Two separate earthquakes felt in several cities of Pakistan on Saturday, sparking panic among the residents.
At 5:06pm, tremors were felt in northern Pakistan on Saturday in cities including Lower Dir, Kohat, Mianwali, DI Khan, Sargodha, Islamabad and its surrounding areas. The quake was also felt in Upper Dir, Nowshera, Swat and surrounding areas.
The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.8 on the Richter scare, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), and its epicentre was the Hindukush Mountains in Afghanistan at a depth of 200 kms.
Earlier, a 2.9-strong earthquake tremors were felt in Karachi. The epicentre was 15 kilometres north of the Sindh capital city.
The tremors were felt in Landhi, Korangi and surrounding areas, forcing people to flee for safe places.
No loss of life has been reported till filing of the report.
