Pakistan urges US not to contribute to strategic imbalance in South Asia by helping India

WASHINGTON (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that a delegation led him urged the United States not to contribute to strategic imbalance in South Asia by helping India, during the 6th round of ministerial level Pakistan-US strategic dialogue held in Washington.

Addressing the members of Council on Foreign Relations on “Prospects of Pakistan-US Relations,” he expressed satisfaction over the Strategic Dialogue process between Pakistan and the United States.
Sartaz Aziz assured that Pakistan would provide the necessary support for an Afghan owned and Afghan led peace initiative in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale has said that Pak-US strategic dialogues are an opportunity to build strong bilateral relationship.

He said the relationship could be described as strong, broad and enduring as both the sides are benefiting from it. He said revival of democracy, war against terrorism and economic reforms are making Pakistan a competitive country.

To a question, he said the United States is working on strategies to ensure provision of services such as energy,education, health care and security to an average Pakistani.

He said the Pak-US relationship is not only based on security and counter terrorism but also on societal level with the wide range of developmental and economical fields. The US are two sovereign countries that strive to work together in positive direction, he added.
