ANKARA – The Turkish police on Thursday claimed to have arrested as many as 20 people on the suspicion of having links with Islamic State militant groups in the city of Adana.
According to Dogan news agency, an anti-terrorism operation was conducted at 22 different locations in the city after officials received intelligence information. The militants were allegedly planning terrorist attacks in Turkey.
The law enforcement agencies were also assisted by a helicopter during the operation.
Following the raids, all the arrested people were taken to Adana police headquarters for further interrogation.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that the city of Adana is located close to the Incirlik Air Base – which is used by US led coalition forces to conduct airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoganhad accused the Islamic State group of the terrorist attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport which killed 45 people in June this year.
