Mufti Muneeb says no moon sighting testimony received so far

LAHORE – Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman on Tuesday claimed that no evidence of the new moon marking the start of the Islamic month of Shawwal had so far been recorded, adding that all media reports in this regard were baseless.

The Mufti appeared on TV saying: “All the reports of moon sighting are false. We have not received any testimony yet and the news channels are also requested to avoid spreading such rumors.”

“This is the matter of beliefs of crores of Muslims, who are awaiting a decision from the committee, but here everyone appears to be the chairman,” he went on to say.

The reporters present on the occasion said that the reports of moon sighting were aired on the basis of information received by the PRO of Aukaf Department. However, Mufti Muneeb insisted that no witness had so far approached the committee with evidence.
