Uae Steps Into Gambling By Issuing First Casino License To American Resorts

ABU DHABI — United Arab Emirates has opened doors to gambling by issuing first commercial license to Wynn Resorts.

Wynn Resorts, a known conglomerate in high-end hotels and casino world, got first commercial gaming operator license in the region by General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. This landmark decision opens the door for Wynn to develop its luxury resort, Wynn Al Marjan Island, in Ras Al Khaimah.

This venture is said to be joint venture between Wynn Resorts, Marjan, and RAK Hospitality Holding, and is poised to be a significant addition to Dubai’s evolving tourism landscape.

The announcement comes shortly after Abu Dhabi established federal entity to regulate gambling, signaling a shift in the country’s approach to this industry. With the hiring of experienced professionals from the American gaming sector to lead the regulatory efforts, UAE is stepping into a new era, having previously maintained strict bans on gambling.

This move is part of broader strategy as UAE faces increasing economic competition, particularly from Saudi Arabia. To reinforce its position as a leading hub for trade, tourism, and finance, the UAE has recently implemented a series of liberal legal reforms.

As the country embraces this new chapter in its economic development, the Wynn Al Marjan Island resort is expected to attract tourists and elevate the UAE’s status on the global gaming map.
