Nawaz Sharif will prefer death with dignity over life of humiliation

LAHORE – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif refused to be shifted to a hospital for treatment despite repeated attempts by the family members.

Shehbaz Sharif met the supreme leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz at the Kot Lakhpat jail on Wednesday and confirmed his condition to be ‘worrisome’.

The former chief minister Punjab confirmed that Nawaz Sharif refused to be relocated to a hospital for treatment despite requests by his mother and other members of the family who tended to him.

“Neither have I begged for treatment, nor will I ask for it. Politics is being done in the name of treatment,” Nawaz Sharif told his brother and visiting family members.

The former premier clarified in point-blank remarks that he would prefer death with dignity but would not accept humiliation.

‘The treatment has not been started even after the reports of the medical board,’ the former premier complained.

The elder Sharif, who was sent behind bars in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference, continued that the government had not provided any sort of medical service until now.

Shehbaz Sharif, who revealed the condition of the former premier, stated on Twitter that when Sharif’s mother Shamim Akhtar pressed him for treatment, Nawaz Sharif replied: The will of Almighty Allah, whatever it is, would happen.

In the light of the medical condition of the former lawmaker, visitors would not be allowed to meet him on Thursday.

A day earlier, Maryam Nawaz had confirmed that Nawaz Sharif was not ready to be relocated to a hospital, advocating the release of the three-time prime minister from jail.

The elder Sharif was sent to seven years behind bars in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference by the accountability court in Islamabad in December last year.

Nawaz Sharif was also convicted in the Avenfiled reference by the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir, however, he was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court.

Sharif’s plea for bail on medical grounds in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference conviction was turned down by the Islamabad High Court last month following which he has moved the supreme court.
