MUZAFFARABAD –  The bodies of three mountaineers who went missing nine years ago while attempting to climb Sarwali Peak have been recovered. This development marks the successful conclusion of the largest search and rescue operation in the history of Azad Kashmir.

The climbers, who had disappeared in August 2015 while trying to reach the summit of Sarwali Peak, have finally been found. The bodies of Imran Janidi, Usman Khalid, and Khurram Shehzad were located and have been transported to THQ Hospital in Kel.

Mohammad Akhtar Ayub, In-Charge of the SDMA Neelum, confirmed that Sarwali Peak, standing at an elevation of 20,755 feet above sea level, remains one of the most challenging and elusive summits. Despite the peak’s notorious difficulty, the recovery mission was completed successfully, bringing closure to the families of the missing climbers.

The search and rescue operation, which spanned nearly a decade, involved extensive efforts and resources to locate the climbers on this formidable peak. The successful recovery of the bodies is a significant achievement and a testament to the perseverance of the rescue teams involved.

This resolution provides a sense of closure to the families and the climbing community, highlighting the ongoing challenges and dangers associated with high-altitude mountaineering.
