PESHAWAR (Staff Report) – Chairmen of the different Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have assured that an optical mark recognition (OMR) system will be introduced in the province by July 10.
Using this system, some 100,000 answer sheets can potentially be checked in 24 hours without error.
The assurance was given during a meeting of the BISE chairmen with KP Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) Mohammad Atif Khan in the chair. Secretary E&SE Afzal Latif and officers of relevant departments also attended the meeting.
Matters including bringing further improvement and transparency in the examination system and maximum use of information technology and utilization of surplus land of BISEs for promotion of sports activities also came under discussion. Several crucial decisions were also taken in this regard.
The minister said the mandate of educational board was not merely conducting examinations; it was also responsible for the provision of a healthy learning environment to the youth of the province. He directed all boards to initiate sports promotion projects without any delay and utilize surplus land for this purpose.
He said the provincial government was working for the stability of public sector organizations and it was introducing reforms for the purpose. The recruitment of 25,000 teachers on strict merit in education department during last three years is ample proof of this, he added.
