PML-N senior leaders reject judges remarks in review petition verdict

ISLAMABAD – A high-level meeting of the PML-N, chaired by Nawaz Sharif, rejected the remarks of judges in the Supreme Court’s review petition verdict on Wednesday.

According to constitutional and legal experts, what was said regarding Nawaz Sharif does not fit judicial language on any level, said a statement issued by the party.

The statement further added that contradictory words used against Nawaz should not be a matter of pride for any court and the verdict, from start to finish, is an unfortunate example of “anger and fury”.

Criticizing the apex court’s verdict further, the PML-N said that poetry was used to question leadership and the people of the country know that it was people in such positions who made the country.

It was the leaders who made sacrifices for the country, made Pakistan into a nuclear power, went through prison sentences, were hanged and exiled and now have been disqualified, elaborated the PML-N.

The Sharif family, without any reservations, acted upon the decisions taken by the court but remarks passed in the rallies of political opponents cannot be tolerated, further said the PML-N statement.

Earlier on Wednesday, an accountability court dismissed Sharif’s plea asking for the clubbing together of three references against him into one.

About the accountability court’s decision, the PML-N president complained, “the anger and grudges of judges have come out in their words.” He said that the court’s decision would be written as a dark chapter in the country’s history, adding that he had already known that the decision would not be in his favour.

The accountability court also formally framed charges against Sharif in person during Wednesday’s hearing. Previously, Sharif had been represented by his attorney during his indictment on October 19 and 20.
