Hania Amir’s intention was ‘never to harass anyone’ through Snapchat story

LAHORE – Pakistani TV star Hania Amir has responded to a storm of criticism unleashed on social media after the actress tried to make fun of a man in her Snapchat story during a flight to the Punjab capital.

The story, uploaded by the model – ‘The dude is struggling to get out of my photo’ – showing a man seated behind the star trying to avoid her camera lens, went viral on Twitter.

The video was uploaded at a time when the Na Maloom Afrad 2 star was heading to Lahore for Oppo F5 launch event.

Twitter went frenetic, with people calling Hania’s snap an act of harassment. They even said that the world’s stance on the matter would have been very different if Hania had been a man doing the same thing.

Following the backlash on social media, the Janaan star clarifies her position in an interview with The Express Tribune, stating: “First of all, I’d like to apologise to everyone who got offended by the video I posted. That was not my intention at all.”

“My intention was never to harass a man, since I do know how it feels to be judged on how I wear my hair, what shoes I wear. Therefore, as soon as the video was uploaded and I saw the snap, I deleted it right there. I wasn’t trying to invade his personal space or anything like that,” Hania added.

To the harassment accusations, she said: “I saw the reactions the video garnered, and I can assure you that in no possible way, I was using my star power to harass the man. I would never do that. Honestly, I don’t even consider myself a star. But I do understand where people are coming from.”

It seems it’s the Parvaaz Hai Junoon actress’ thing to record people without their consent.
