In conversation with Shayan Khan; Exclusive Interview

Shayan Khan is an emerging actor who will be soon seen on the big screens along with Mikaal Zulfiqar, Atiqa Odho and Qavi Khan.Na Band Na Baraati is yet another movie which will strengthen Pakistani film industry’s revival. The movie revolves around two brothers living in Canada with an epic twist of love.

Introducing Shayan who is from Karachi but moved to Houston, Texas when he was 13 years old. He lives with his mother and two siblings currently. He got his degree in Political sciences from Houston. His father who was a marine engineer and the initial producer of ‘Na Band, Na Baraati’ wanted to see him on the big screens, putting his best acting skills forward. However sadly his father passed away suffering from a stroke right after he finished filming the movie. Shayan picked himself up, stayed strong throughout this journey, kept a smile on his face for the world and for his father’s dream.

How was your experience, acting for the first time?
Shayan: It was a great experience, a lot of learning and I was really honored to work with some of our veteran actors like Mikaal Zulfiqar. He is a very versatile actor, I learned a lot from him and he helped me throughout the film.

Q: What is your favorite color?
Shayan: Blue…. Like a boy *Laughs*

Q: Your favorite music genre?
Shayan: Hip hop kinda music.

Q: Your favorite movie?
Shayan: I’ll say Titanic *Pause* wait it is Titanic! *Laughs*

Q: Your favorite actor and actress?
Shayan: My favorite actor would be Shaan. My favorite actress would be Angelina Jolie not because of her acting only but because of her humanitarian efforts.

Q: A cause you’d want to support?
Shayan: Helping children.

Q: What do you do in your free time?
Shayan: I try to see what more I can related to work and acting.

Q: Who is your confidant and mentor?
Shayan: My Mom.

Q: Most favorite person on the set of ‘Na Band, Na Baraati’, how and why?
Shayan: Ali Kazmi because he is young, energetic, very hardworking, good looking, very nice actor and he is very easygoing.

Q: What do you think about the Pakistani film industry and where do you see yourself in the future?
Shayan: You know Pakistani Industry is growing and our standards are increasing obviously I want to be someone that is recognized and someone that is different. I’ve worked really hard for my first project, kept a really strict diet. Hopefully our Pakistani audience will like me or love me. *laughs*

Q: Why did you choose acting as a career?
Shayan: I came back to Pakistan not only to invest in the cinema or the industry but I have a lot of passion for my country and especially the youth of our country. I would want to be someone they [youth] can look up to. Someone with a strong personality.

Q: Pakistani film industry is male dominated, what do you have to say about this statement?
Shayan: I can obviously talk for everyone but I know as Pakistani’s we are growing, we have a lot of tolerance for things and women have started to do more for themselves, comparatively.
