SOUTH CAROLINA – Nature conservationists in the US have freaked out a whole host of people on the internet by posting an image of a bizarre giant fish with “human-like” teeth.
The horrendous looking creature was fished out of a saltwater creek in South Carolina, according to the local government nature agency. While it might look like something that grew out of a nuclear accident, the fish, known as a Sheepshead or convict fish because of its black and white stripes, is all-natural.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources posted an image of the weird sea creature along with a quiz to see if people could figure what type of fish it is. It resulted in a whole lot of raised eyebrows.
Many on social media were able to quickly identify the fish since, according to The Edible Ocean, it’s a common saltwater species found along the East Coast — particularly in North Carolina and Florida. The site, which is run by a fishmonger, referred to the fish’s white, “firm, moist flesh” as being “delicious.”

“A shy but intelligent fish that hides in wrecks and rock piles and fights with a lot of heart. Great eating too!” one person wrote.
“My favourite fish to eat,” another commented, “but they kinda give me the creeps with their people teeth.”
“A tough fish to land for sure, but worth the taste! They love fiddler crabs,” another advised.
On Twitter, some have encountered sheepshead fish with “ugly” teeth and find them to be just plain “creepy.”
