LAHORE – A man approached Supreme Court in case of polygyny for help in settling dues he owes to his first wife.
The case was heard by a three-member bench. Justice Mushir Alam chaired the hearing while Justice Yahyah Afridi and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed are the other two judges.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyers argued that their client was unable to afford the expenses of both wives. He said the husband was paying a considerable amount for living to the first wife and pleaded to the supreme court to lay off dues worth more than Rs1 million.
The court questioned the groom, why did you remarry if you can’t afford it? He observed that life was about responsibility and not living selfishly. “Who advised you to marry a second time?”
The bench later decided to refer the matter to a trial court and disposed of the petition based on withdrawal.
