Students expelled from university in Saudi Arabia for taking pictures of a colleague on their mobile phones
Two female students who are accused of taking photos of their class fellows on their mobile phones are now facing serious consequences. Al-Qassim university expelled two students for putting their fellow students in a compromising position.
“Our institution issued an order expelling two female students who used their mobile phones to invade the privacy of their colleagues on campus.”
The ban on using mobile phones in universities was lifted in 2017 and now people, especially women are calling the authorities to reconsider this decision.

This led to a debate on Twitter where people had different things to say about the university’s action on the incident.
Too harsh?

“It’s true that they did make a mistake and should be held accountable for it. And even though I don’t have all the details over the incident, I believe that expelling these students is just too harsh.”
Punishment should be given:

“Whoever violates regulations and invades people’s privacy deserves to be punished.”
Reverse the ban:

“Lecture halls and classrooms are equipped with iPads, computers, and Internet for students to take notes. Reverse the ban lift and allow us to protect our privacy and dignity.”
Such incidents are a reminder of how universities and such public domains must be monitored as this is not a new issue. Such defamation of fellow students is done on many different levels. People who are involved in such actions should be accountable for their actions as the dignity and privacy of a person is very important and it should be protected. On the other hand people who do such things are not only harming other people around them but they also show their own caliber. As the social media is rapidly growing their are a few responsibilities of the users which come along , that includes the consent of people who are being featured in their videos and pictures. By law such actions can be taken down but getting to the law is secondary. Our foremost responsibility is for refrain from such indecent actions. Imagine yourself on the other side of the story!
