ECNEC approves six development projects

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led federal government has approved financing for various projects in Pakistan.

A meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) chaired by Finance Minister Asad Umar on Wednesday approved development projects in various areas.

These projects include:

  • Project for evacuation of power from Suki Kinari, Kohala and Mahl hydropower at a cost of Rs79.9 billion
  • Sindh Solar Energy project at a cost of Rs12.848 billion
  • Rehabilitation project of Dargai hydroelectric power station at a cost of Rs 4 billion.
  • Ministry of Water Resources proposes to include Tangir Hydropower project in the Diamer Basha Dam project
  • Approved Balochistan Water Resource Development Project (BWRDP) at a cost Rs16.453 billion.
  • Approved revised cost of Peshawar Sustainable Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Project. Revised cost of the project raised to Rs66.437 billion from Rs45 billion. Project to be completed by June 2019, the stipulated completion time.

Earlier, a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved a financial support package worth Rs17.022 billion for national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to keep afloat.

The meeting chaired by Minister of Finance Asad Umar also decided to allocate 10 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) gas from the Bitrism field to Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).
