ISLAMABAD – Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Secretary-General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, has indicated that the proposed amendments by government allies may be postponed. He stated that they have informed government officials that they do not yet have the draft of the bill, and it is impossible to vote without reviewing it, thus requesting a delay.
In a media conversation, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said, “Government representatives came to us, and we clearly told them that while they are in a hurry, we have not received the draft or the amendment bill. How can we vote without seeing and reading the bill?”
He added, “We requested that the bill be postponed so we, as well as other opposition parties, can review it thoroughly.”
Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri also mentioned that friends from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) visited and were informed of the same concerns—that they had asked the government not to rush and to allow time for reading and considering the bill to make a well-informed decision.
He noted, “Since the meeting was called and everyone is present, we decided to participate and present our stance clearly, questioning the need for such haste and the manner in which it is being handled.”
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader concluded, “If you are rushing, we may not be in a position to proceed accordingly.”
