India ends Ramazan ceasefire in occupied Kashmir after martyring youth

NEW DELHI – The Indian government on Sunday announced not to extend the Ramazan ceasefire in occupied Kashmir, a day after the occupant forces martyred a youth in the valley on Eid day.

The decision was announced by India Home Minister on his Twitter handle, saying “The Government of India decides not to extend the suspension of operations in J&K announced in the beginning of Ramazan”.

India had announced a conditional ceasefire in anti-militancy operation by security forces in the restive Jammu and Kashmir state during the holy month of Ramazan.

The decision was announced by India’s home ministry in a series of tweets, with a threat that the forces reserve a right to retaliate, if attacked.

The suspension of the ceasefire was announced by the home minister a day after Indian forces martyred a twenty-year-old man was in Islamabad town of occupied Kashmir on Saturday.

The youth identified as Sheeraz Ahmad received bullet injuries When Indian police opened fire on protesters gathered after Eid prayers at Ashajipora against the killing of a teenager by Indian Army a day before.

Around ten people also injured during the incident when the troops used tear gas shells and pellet guns to disperse the people who were shouting slogans in favour of Pakistan, demanding freedom from India.

On Thursday, the United Nations said that Indian security forces have used excessive force in Kashmir and killed and wounded numerous civilians since 2016, besides calling for an international inquiry into alleged violations in the disputed territory.

“There is an urgent need to address past and ongoing human rights violations and abuses and deliver justice for all people in Kashmir, who for seven decades have suffered a conflict that has claimed or ruined numerous lives,” says the report by the UN Human Rights Office.
