Institute of Psychology, BNU hosts mental health activities at Tarogil Campus

LAHORE – The Institute of Psychology (IP) at Beaconhouse National University hosted Mental Health Activities on Thursday, 22nd February at Tarogil Campus.

The event created awareness of Mental Health illness and  aimed  to reduce the stigma attached to the mental health problems. It also featured academic activities including a quiz competition, psychometric assessment facility, Canvas of Catharsis, Performing Arts and a poster competition on the theme of “Harmony” in our society. Students of undergraduate degrees in Psychology from Kinnaird College for Women University, Lahore College for Women University, Government College University (GCU), University of the Punjab, University of Management and Technology (UMT) and COMSATS took part in the competitions.

The event also offered a Mental Health Day Carnival where several handicraft stalls were put up by Special Education Institutes as well as food-stalls by the students of Institute of Psychology. At the occasion informational flyers on psychological well-being were distributed on: Ways to Enhance Self-Esteem, Tips to improve your Self-Awareness, Steps to Enhance your Personality, Self-Confidence Tips, Tips for a Better Body Image, and how to be Assertive but not offensive.

This activity was also organized to cultivate the spirit of altruism among the youth and to encourage them to actively participate and volunteer for the promotion of welfare of mental health institutes including special children’s agencies in the country. It is worth-noting that the proceeds generated from these activities shall be contributed for the promotion of mental health and well being of the masses. In the past years these proceeds have gone to the Flood Relief Efforts and Fountain House, Special Children Organizations.
