LAHORE – A 27-year-old woman received burn injuries in Shahdara Town after her in-laws allegedly threw oil on her and set her on fire Tuesday night.
The victim identified as Fouzia in a statement to police said that she was married to Shamrez two years ago, adding that her husband left for a foreign country for employment not long after.
As Shamrez left the country, his family started harassing her, forcing her to leave the house and subsequently she had to go back to her parents’ home, she added.
Fouzia said she received a call from her husband two days ago, asking her to go back the in-laws and live there after apologising to them.
Following her husband’s advice, the victim went back, and, according to Fouzia, her mother-in-law, to brothers-in-law and another doused her in oil and set her on fire.
An FIR has been registered in the case after recording the statement of the victim, while further investigation is underway.
