ISLAMABAD – Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif has written a letter to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Sharif praised the Ms Ardern’s brave, exemplary and courageous leadership while expressing his gratitude to her for expressing solidarity with the Muslim victims of Christchurch shooting by broadcasting Azan on Friday.
“Your condemnation to the attack showed that terrorism has no religion,” Shehbaz Sharif wrote. “We pray that you continue to rule the country with the same passion and courage,” he added.
Shehbaz Sharif wished that other people in the world are able to learn from Jacinda Adern’s actions.
The New Zealand PM has been hailed internationally following her reaction and the handling of the situation.
A day after the mosque attacks, Ardern visited Christchurch wearing a ‘dupatta’ to express solidarity with Muslims in this hour of grief was well received.
A teary-eyed Ardern said she brought messages of love, support and grief on behalf of all New Zealanders to the crowd gathered at Canterbury Refugee Resettlement and Resources Centre.
Ardern was showered with immense praises internationally for the gesture, which made it clear that New Zealand stood by the Muslim community that was the centre of March 15’s horrifying terror attacks rooted in racial as well as religious hatred.
