NAB paralysing govt machinery by harassing executive, says PM Abbasi

ISLAMABAD- Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi took a strong exception to the role played by the National Accountability Bureau was tantamount to ‘harassing’ the executive which paralysed the government machinery.

Presiding over a meeting of the federal cabinet on Wednesday, the prime minister slated the accountability watchdog when a request seeking required information for investigating different corruption cases was placed before the cabinet.

The anti-corruption watchdog had sought information related to the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM), however, the communication irked the premier who opined that the executive enjoyed powers to make decisions and only executive could rectify its wrong decisions.

Inquiring that who will work if the executive is harassed, Khaqan Abbasi was of the opinion that there should be a proper procedure for providing government information to NAB, Dawn News reported.

The prime minister also ordered the formation of a committee to formulate a procedure under which relevant information could be shared with NAB.

Meanwhile, the cabinet did not honour the NAB request for aforementioned purpose and decided that the required information would be provided after a procedure for this was laid down.

The cabinet also endorsed its own decision of disbanding the Engineering Development Board (EDB) of the Ministry of Industries and Production.
