LAHORE (Web Desk) – As many as 50 clerics linked with Tanzeem Ittehad-i-Ummat have ruled that marriage with a transgender person is legal.
A transgender person with “visible signs of being a male” may marry a woman and vice versa for a transgender having “visible signs of being a female”, said the fatwa issued by a relatively unknown religious group on Sunday.
However, the fatwa also mentioned that a transgender person with “visible signs of both genders” may not wed anyone.

The edict also condemned parents who deprived transgenders of their share in inheritance. The clerics urged the government to take stern action against such unfair parents. They also declared that funeral rituals for a transgender person would be similar as for any other Muslim man or woman.
The fatwa was issued by: Pir Karamat Ali, Imran Hanfi, Masoodur Rehman, Abu Bakr Awan, Khalil Yousafi, Tahir Tabassum Qadri, Gulzar Naeemi, Gul Ateequi, Abdul Sattar Saeedi, Khizarul Islam and Intikhab Noori.
