NEW YORK (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to address the 70th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York today.
The premier is expected to deliver his speech in English language despite an order of Supreme Court of Pakistan which which directed the President and Prime Minister to deliver speeches in Urdu language whether inside or outside the country.
In his speech the prime minister will highlight the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, Kashmir issue, Indian interference in Pakistan and other issues of Middle East. He will urge the world leaders to press Indian government to restore composite dialogue with Pakistan.
Prior to the address Nawaz Sharif attended attend global leaders meeting on gender equality and women empowerment organized by China and UN women. He is also met Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 28.
The prime minister, who is leading a 35-member Pakistani delegation at UNGA, attended a peace summit co-hosted by Pakistan, United States and the UN Secretary General. The summit was followed by a reception hosted by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
The premier also addressed the plenary meeting of General Assembly for adoption of the post-2015 Development Agenda.
Moreover Nawaz Sharif held bilateral dialogues with Sri Lankan President, German Chancellor, Swedish Prime Minister, Turkish Prime Minister and world technology leader Bill Gates on the sidelines of UN General Assembly.
Pakistan’s first lady Kalsoom Nawaz, National Security Adviser to Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, Pakistan’s permanent representative to UN Maleeha Lodhi and Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman are also accompanying the Prime Minister.
