ISLAMABAD – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam highlighted that most of the regions of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province were on the verge of urban and glacial lake outburst floods
GLOF project aims to protect the lives and saving public infrastructures in the Northern region of the country. Project line up communication systems between KPDMA and district disaster management authorities in both GLOF risk-vulnerable areas for any unforeseen disaster situations, Aslam said.
GLOF was a major joint initiative of the climate change ministry and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which educates and equip the KPK province and Gilgit-Baltistan region with technical know-how, he added.
SAPM said in order to prepare the provincial Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for rapid disaster recovery and response, technical support was being provided to the provincial government to deal with the risk of such flood-related incidents.
SAPM on climate change said A district emergency Response Cell ( DERC) has been recently formed under the GLOF project. It was provided with different tools that help with earlier predictions.
