Peshawar Corps Commander sees no threat from IS

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Hidayatur Rehman dismissed the notion on Saturday that the terrorist group Daesh or IS posed a serious threat to Pakistan.

Addressing a news conference along with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi at the Governor’s House in Peshawar, Hidayat said there was no need to fret about Daesh or its emergence in the country.

“Defections are taking place in the Taliban and they are becoming part of IS, but we are aware of the situation and are able to tackle them effectively,” he said in response to a media query.

The commander rejected the notion that the terrorist group was spreading across the country slowly, saying the army and security forces were in control of the situation.

He said the security forces had been dealing with the Taliban for over 12 years, and Daesh was no different.
