LAHORE – Lahore College alleged on-campus rape sparked controversy online, and female students named YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan, who allegedly provoked them for spreading propaganda regarding the sensitive incident.
These claims were made by Pakistani journalist Umar Cheema who said these testimonies were added to inquiry committee investigations of high-profile case. The news of alleged sexual assault with a first-year student at private college triggered massive protests across the province, demanding justice for the victim.
The journalist made his statements in a clip shared by PML-N’s digital media account on social media, highlighting that the students claimed they peddled misinformation following Imran Riaz’s, without verifying its accuracy. Several students also issued apologies for sharing “false information” about the alleged case online.
Protests erupted in Lahore, other Punjab cities in wake of allegations of rape at College, leading authorities to close all educational institutions and ban gatherings for the weekend. The unrest began in Lahore and spread to other campuses, including Rawalpindi, where police clashed with protesters and arrested 380 individuals for vandalism and arson.
No victim has come forward so far while police claim to have found no evidence supporting the allegations. The director of the college stated he would resign if the claims were proven true, and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif warned against spreading false information.
The protests highlight concerns about safety and harassment in educational settings and reflect students’ mistrust of authorities.
