SHANGHAI – Wimbledon champion Roger Federer has beaten world number one Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-3 in the Shanghai Rolex Masters final to capture his sixth title of the year.
The 36-year-old Swiss was at his ruthless best on Sunday, clinching a second Shanghai crown (2014) and 27th at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 level.
Nadal leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head rivalry 23-15, but Federer is doing his best to narrow the margin, having won their past five match-ups.
“Congratulations to Roger for a great year,” Nadal said after the match. “You played a fantastic match today so congratulations.”
