Budget 2018-19: Imported smartphones get more expensive after additional taxes

ISLAMABAD – The federal government led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), in its sixth and final budget presented in the lower house of the Parliament on Friday, has introduced additional tax on the import of smartphones according to Excise Act 2005.

There is no additional import duty on the smartphones below the value of Rs10,000.

However, a Rs1000 import levy has imposed on smartphone ranging between Rs10,000 to Rs40,000.

An amount of Rs3,000 will be levied on the imported smartphones between the price range of Rs40,000 and Rs80,000, while Rs5,000 additional tax will be charged on the mobile phones priced over Rs80,000.

Last year, the federal government had reduced taxes on certain kind of smartphones.

The federal government has also announced a reduction in prices of automobiles and home appliances in next fiscal year.
