ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid Thursday said the Federal Cabinet had approved Pakistan Climate Change Act 2016 and it would be tabled in the upcoming session of Parliament.
Talking to reporters here, he said today was the important day because the cabinet also accorded its approval to the Paris agreement according to which all the countries across the globe committed to play their role in decreasing greenhouse gases.
It was also decided in Paris that developed countries would have to play the maximum role in that regard as they were responsible for the emission of the gases, he added.

The minister said the upcoming Climate Change Conference would be held in Marrakesh from November 7 to 22 in which all member countries would present their reports regarding their responsibilities.
The government, he said, had also prepared its report in consultation with all the stakeholders, which was approved by the cabinet.
Under the proposed act, he said Pakistan Climate Change Authority would be constituted to perform functions assigned to it under the act and the rules and regulations made thereunder.
The authority would be a corporate body with perpetual succession and a common seal, he added.-APP
