NA, Senate demand United Nations to play role in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The National Assembly and the Senate unanimously passed resolutions, asking the United Nations (UN) and the international community to play their role in solution of Kashmir dispute for peace, progress and stability in South Asian region.
Two resolutions were moved separately in both the houses of parliament on the issue of Kashmir. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Senator Hamza moved resolutions in National Assembly and Senate, respectively. The resolutions urged the international community to play their role towards the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The resolutions paid rich tributes to the sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiri people for the cause of self-determination. It noted that the brave and valiant people of Kashmir are continuing their just struggle despite the presence of oppressive 700,000 Indian troops in the valley.
The resolution reiterated Pakistan’s continuous political, moral and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people and said that the lingering dispute should be resolved through a fair and transparent plebiscite. This house strongly condemns the violation of human rights in the Indian-held Kashmir.
The house called upon the international community to investigate the incidents of human rights violations such as the kidnapping of Kashmiri youth in the occupied valley. It also called upon the Indian government to allow human rights organisations to visit the occupied valley.
The resolution said the Kashmir dispute was a centerpiece in the Indo-Pak dialogue and its resolution was imperative for durable peace and stability in the region. It also called upon the United Nations to strengthen the role of the UN Military Observers Group. The resolution also strongly denounced the unprovoked Indian firing on the Line of Control and the Working Boundary, which martyred innocent people and damaged properties.
