ISLAMABAD – Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has appreciated the armed forces for limiting their budget for the next fiscal year in line with broader austerity measures being introduced by the government.
In a tweet, the de-facto finance minister said the move will contribute towards government’s drive of managing expenditures, reducing fiscal deficit and achieving economic stability.

Dr Shaikh said all of us have to play our role in meeting our national goals.
Last night, Prime Minister Imran Khan had appreciated the military for taking a voluntary initiative to slash the defence budget.
The premier noted that these cuts were agreed to despite “multiple security challenges”.
Khan promised that the money saved would be diverted to aid the development of the merged tribal areas and Balochistan.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal also highly appreciated the Armed Forces’ decision regarding a voluntary cut in defence budget for development of Balochistan and recently merged tribal areas.
“It will set an exemplary precedent for the development of these areas,” she said in a brief statement.
