NEW DELHI – The website of the Ministry of Defence of India was hacked on Friday allegedly by Chinese hackers, Indian media reported.
When a user tries to reach the website, it displays an “error” message and promoted the user to try again. The website also displays a Chinese character for “Home,” media said.
The cyber attack has been confirmed by India’s Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman through his Twitter handle, saying, “Action is initiated after the hacking of MoD website ( http://mod.nic.in ). The website shall be restored shortly. Needless to say, every possible step required to prevent any such eventuality in the future will be taken”.

Indian news agency PTI quoted officials as saying that the Chinese people could be involved in the hack.
As the minister shared the message on Twitter, Indian social media users took aim at Sitharaman for poor security of the website.
