KARACHI – At least two Chinese citizens were killed and one injured in a bombing near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
Chinese Embassy shared a statement on attack that specifically targeted a convoy transporting staff from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company around 11pm on Sunday.
Biejing condemned incident as a terrorist attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims, pledging to cooperate with Pakistani authorities to address the situation.
According to the embassy, the convoy was carrying Chinese engineers involved in a power project in Sindh province. In response to the attack, the embassy activated an emergency plan, calling for a thorough investigation and urging Pakistani officials to enhance security measures for Chinese citizens and enterprises.
On other hand, Terror outfit Balochistan Liberation Army took responsibility for the attack, stating they specifically targeted a “high-level convoy of Chinese engineers and investors.” The group said its Majeed Brigade carried out the attack.
After the attack, Chinese Embassy has advised its citizens in Pakistan to remain vigilant and assured a thorough investigation to ensure accountability for the perpetrators.
The incident raised concerns in Islamabad as Port Qasim Power Generation project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC, a multi-billion initiative in sparsely populated Balochistan.
